New AC unit

We have added a new unit for the second time in a small period of time. This time the new Unit was not needed for extra cooling, but is a standby unit. When one of the other AC units fails, then this unit kicks in. Creating a redundant N+1 environment.

New fiber connections

The new fibers from Trent are ready for use. We have a redundant ring setup with connections to Equinix Enschede. See also our connectivity page for the new network layout.

Extra cooling added

Last week we installed a new conditioning unit. The new unit is larger than the current setup and has a capacity of 26kw. With the new unit we have enough capacity for the near future.

We noticed in may 2014 that the temperatures were rising on the data-floor. This because of the rapid grow.
We installed a cold corridor keeping the cold air trapped in front of the racks. But we noticed that this wasn't enough. The servers in the upper sections of the racks were almost 10 degrees hotter then the servers in the middle of lower section. That is when we decided to order a extra cooling unit.

InterDC and Trent have agreed on the construction for two new dark fiber connections. The choice for Trent was quickly made because our other supplier is Eurofiber. With a new provider we are less depended on one company.

The new fiber will connect our datacenter via a redundant path to Equinix Enschede. In Equinix we are able to get an connection to Frankfurt Germany. That way the traffic can go two different routes.
With the new fiber we are also able to connect to the ND-IX platform and expanding our services.
The new fiber will be ready in October this year.

Cold corridor principle

The temperatures in the cold corridor began slowly to rise. So it was time that we closed the cold corridor, meaning that we place roofs and doors to keep the cold air trapped in front of the servers.
This helped a lot and the temperatures began to drop in front of the racks. Unfortunately we noticed that our current AC unit was not able to produce enough pressure to get the cold air all to the top of the racks. Meaning that the upper sections of the racks was not getting enough cold air and was hotter then the middle and lower sections. We decided to place a order for a new unit, which should arrive in 1 to 2 months.

Today we added blindplates to our racks. The blindplates keeps the hot and cold air separated. The cold air can only travel thru the servers to the back of the racks.
With this add-on we can cool more efficient.

Datafloor temperature measurements

Today we started to monitor the temperatures on the datafloor with dozen temperature sensors.
With the measurements we will create a better picture in temperature difference in our datafloor.

UPS room cooling

We added a 5kw cooling AC to our UPS room, so that we can cool our UPS units. With a constant low temperature we will be able to extend the lifespan of the batteries.
